Itinerary summary
Santa Cruz and the Lowlands
Days 1-4: The first night is spent in Santa Cruz, visiting this pleasant and leafy city founded by Jesuit priests. Travel to the Amboró National Park, one of the most botanically diverse in the world, to spend two nights. Hike the park's trails and explore its giant fern forests in search of local wildlife. You will also have the opportunity to explore the UNESCO World heritage site of Samaipata, a pre-Columbian religious settlement built by the pre-Inca Chané people, on your way back to Santa Cruz to stay a night before your journey to the Jesuit missions of Chiquitos.
The Missions
Days 5-8: The next two nights will be spent on a guided circuit, staying in Concepción and San Ignacio de Velazco while visiting several of the Jesuit missions in this area. Seven of the original missions, which date back to 1691, are still in use today. Spend a night in San José de Chiquitos, capital of Bolivia's Chiquitos Province, to experience local life with visits to handcraft workshops and a typical bakery before returning to Santa Cruz to stay the final night.
Day 9: Return to the airport in Santa Cruz for your return flight or onward travel.
