Panamonte Inn and Spa
Location
Boquete (Chiriquí Highlands, Panama)
Description
A lovely hotel full of character, dating back to 1914. The family history is very much in evidence throughout, with evocative photographs and memorabilia of famous visitors from the past. There is an excellent and renowned restaurant.
Activities
Walking, ziplines, rafting, birdwatching. The hotel also has a famous cookery school which offers cookery lessons to guests - best booked in advance to ensure head chef Charlie Collins (the hotel owner and well-known Panamanian chef) is in residence.
Accommodation
Accommodation is dotted around the beautiful and peaceful gardens. Facing the back of the main house across the lawn, there are three junior suites, each with private terrace. There is a separate honeymoon suite with outside fireplace (and a full length window through which one can enjoy the fire from inside). The garden terrace rooms towards the rear of the property are the most recent addition to the hotel and are extremely spacious and comfortable, although more of a walk from reception. Standard rooms are within the original building but are much smaller and have an old-fashioned feel.
Client comments and reviews
Panamonte Inn was first class, the garden terrace rooms very large and comfortable and with a bath (which we prefer). Dinner was excellent and we ate there every night (could not see anywhere else in Boquete with anything like this standard), they even had a half decent wine list and this was one of the few places we had wine. Only criticism at Panamonte was the meagre continental breakfast. - MF (December 2013)
