One of El Chalten’s most charming lodges owned by mountain guide Alberto Del Castillo, who has filled the walls of the breakfast room with his mountaineering photos. It has a warm, friendly atmosphere and very helpful staff.

El Puma hotel was a good base. The only things I did not like were that no windows open in the bedrooms and a basic breakfast, not as good as the others. But overall, El Chalten was my favourite part of the trip. I loved the relaxed, laid back vibe - Craft beer and cute restaurants. We had perfect walking weather and I loved being able to hike straight out the door, no park fees or transport needed.

Hosteria El Puma seems to be way out of town but is less than a 10 minute walk to the centre. This meant that at night it was very comfortingly quiet. All the staff were exceptionally helpful, although their English was limited at times. Although very well situated for the starting point for most hikes, it is not the best equipped for trekkers – there is no drying room, no plugs and the hot water is limited at times. However, all of this is completely understandable, given the remote location, and we managed without problems. - PJ (March 2017)
